the host

so, i finally saw the host this weekend. it wasn't quite what i was expecting, but i liked it. it was a monster movie with some dark comedy type thing and a dysfunctional family. visually it was gorgeous, nice colors and nice cgi on the monster. but yeah throughly enjoyable.

but of course, its apparently is being made into an american movie. just really unnecessary. hey hollywood, think of something on your own.

also, finally did anniversary dinner with 'famous' pizza and cookies. yummy!

Panel #3: Studies in Popular Culture (MH 104; 2:30-4:00)

*ME: “The Transnational Appeal of Taiwanese Dramas Across Asia: Meteor Garden and Hana Kimi”

So, we got the times of our SMP presentations today. For my project i translated the first episode of Hana-Kimi into english. I did a little bit of work on the transnationalism of popular culture in general in East Asia. I also researched the transnational appeal of Meteor Garden(old-school really popular drama) and Hana-Kimi(2007 popular drama). Basically why are these shows popular outside Taiwan, and what the transnationalism of popular culture could possibly mean for the rest of East Asia. Pan East Asia Popular Culture??! I don't know you tell me how Bi manages to be the spokesmodel for gyms in Shanghai even though he can't speak Chinese. you know shit like that. So i originally i was going to study the use of english loan words in chinese, but decided that would be too boring for a year long project. What do i watch alot of? Taiwanese dramas..and they're in chinese! what else do i spend alot of my time messing around with? East Asian Popular Culture. so there you go. it came together a bit naturally after i figured it out. i don't know many people who get to watch a tv show for their smp. don't get me wrong its been alot of hard work and alot of chinese=major headaches, but it could have been a lot worse. im talking like im done. time to get back to work.

so i was watching zoolander the other night...

and i realized how much i love milla jovovich. and i also was wondering how they would make her look so not cute in that movie. anyway i know everyone(except my family) hates on the resident evil movies, but i love them. i find them very enjoyable. but you know that's fine because i know somewhere out there in the world there is someone who thinks elephant or step up is the best movie ever. anyway i love milla, except in ultraviolet. i did not like that, i mean she looked really good and all and kicked some butt and had hair that changed colors. but no. not so good. haha but i got it bootleg so generally i feel pretty okay about the purchase. if i was an actress i would only pick roles where i was kicking ass. plus her skin in rs3 looks absolutely amazing on blu-ray. for serious. Oh! and she gets to act with mummy man ohhh yeah that's what im talking about. errr yeah hes yummy.

Anyway this has been a nice break from my smp.

River Otters!

Today for my Marine Biology lab we went to the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomon's. It was actually really nicely done and had a bunch of old lady volunteers running it. These old ladies were very smart although they did like to talk a lot. The most exciting part(the whole reason i didn't mind going) was the two river otters. They are so cute. They're really playful and active and have some kick ass fur and other adaptations which make them really awesome in the water. Annnnd they actually can be found in this area. Woo! Otters!

Tonight i have to cram for ANOTHER Bio test. Which is not awesome or cute. I cannot wait until classes are done.

Photoshop, my love.

On Kaori (my old laptop) i had photoshop and imageready which was given to me by my uncle bob. Since then Kaori had unfortunately died. But now, now with my new laptop Luna(who is yellow and delicious) i was photoshop-less. This was especially sad because i really loved my photoshop even after my intense icon-making phase. I used to make all my own backgrounds and banners, but now on my lovely Luna the screen resolution is so big that i can't use any of my old stuff without it looking shitty and small. very sad. BUT now i am back in action with the very same photoshop7.0. Yay!

Final Fantasy XIII

Ok, i have been excited for this game ever since they announced it was going to be on the PS3 and that it would make use of the White Engine. This game will be beautiful, and i have no doubt it will make use of the PS3's capabilities. PS3 launched, as we all know with pretty shitty games. Some fun yes, but none to make us feel like it was a $400 or $600 well spent (blu-rays FTW?!). Nevertheless we are now in 2008 with fans eagerly awaiting the new Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy. Has Squareenix ever really let us down? no, we are not counting ffx-2. And will hideo kojima? i doubt it. anyways i'm really excited. So Final Fantasy 13 will (hopefully) star this hot chick in the middle with the gunblade. Lighting is her name. Odd, but i'll take it. then there's this other chick up top, who we don't know much about. I like her hair and character design though. pretty tribal and awesome looking. and no giant bows! hopefully she's not a sissy. and lastly we have this blonde dude. and yes, he has to be blonde because it is final fantasy. people call him Mr. 33cm? i think, anyway im just really hoping he's not some gay sissy boy of a main character. no one needs or wants another Tidus or Vaan. No Thanks!

Summons are back, maybe in a weird motorcycle of a way, but im willing to try something different?. now we're sure Ifrit, Siren, Shiva, and Carbuncle(sooooo cute!) are back for sure.

Also! Nobuo is doing the theme song! woot!

Now, i was hoping i would see someone of the brown persuasion make an appearance...but it looks like that might not be happening. No, Fran does not count, because she was a Viera, a bunny girl. And umm Barrett, the big black man with the gun, im not feeling that so much either. i mean definitely cool and all, but let's try harder here.

Point is i am so f-ing excited. i want to play it now and postpone the rest of my life...i haven't even gotten started on Versus yet..
i'm sure i'll have more to say on this later...

ok so some guy made this. and did a really good job. i wish yuna knew gun-kata in ffx-2, but i doubt it would have made the game any better. but yeah he used the actual moves they used in DoA so that was pretty cool. anyway i love fan cheesy products like this. it warms my heart. seriously
